Apple Software Update

Apple releases new software via macOS Software Update:

  • macOS Installer Notification (Update Product ID: 002-62147)

This package enables modified notifications for users of old operating systems, suggesting to upgrade to macOS 12 Monterey.

Security-related packages do not appear in the Software Update section of System Preferences (or App Store in older versions of the operating system). macOS is updating the software automatically in the background if you have granted the system permission to download system data files and security-related files.

  • Apple SafeView version 9.31 (Update Product ID: 002-73663)

SafeView is an internal utility that macOS customers can use to share their screens via Internet with service representatives from Apple or AppleCare. It allows remote access for support purposes. This software is not available to the general public.

TinkerTool System 7
February 14, 2022:

We are releasing TinkerTool System 7 version 7.85:

  • Added new feature to reset file system permissions in a local user’s home folder to default values. This includes a “test run” option which allows a preliminary check.
  • Added a new “reveal in Finder” button for unreadable objects detected by the feature to check the path lengths of deeply nested folders.
  • Added an additional warning when editing the inheritance setting of Access Control Entries in cases where a combination of options is valid, but ineffective.
  • Added new option for the retrieval of standard system logs for reports on “emergency power-off” events.
  • Added new option for the retrieval of standard system logs for reports on application crashes that macOS recorded in iPhone IPS format.
  • Many system logs will now be automatically reformatted and made easily readable if macOS has stored them in JSON format instead of plain text.
  • Added new feature to open specific system logs in the Console application for cases where macOS uses undocumented post-processing to translate the raw log to interpreted text.
  • In order not to cause performance problems with the graphical user interface of macOS when processing results of more than half a million entries, the feature to re-sort columns in the result table of the Time Machine comparison feature has been removed.
  • The results of a Time Machine snapshot comparison can now be exported as additional text file.
  • Fixed a problem where exporting a list of orphaned files could fail under specific circumstances.

February 3, 2022:
We are releasing Battery Monitor version 4.5 through the Mac App Store. This is a maintenance update which fixes minor issues:

  • In specific cases, the labels for the y axes in history graphs could be rounded in confusing or misleading fashion, depending on the accuracy of the corresponding battery sensors. The number of digits and the rounding method are now optimized to avoid such issues.
  • For specific operating system versions, the feature to open the Energy Saver preference pane via the menu icon may have failed.

Battery Monitor is a powerful App to display the charge state of portable Macs in the Dock, to display internal battery information, to capture charge and discharge curves, to keep logs of the aging process of the battery, and to add notifications via Notification Center or speech output.
