Apple releases new software via macOS Software Update:

  • SF Symbols version 2.1 (Update Product ID: 061-62862)

SF Symbols is a font package of over 750 new symbols including more than 150 multicolor symbols, support for negative side margins enabling greater control over horizontal alignment, improved localization, a new sidebar with customizable categories for faster browsing, a symbol metadata inspector panel, and numerous design refinements. Version 2.1 adds over 40 new symbols, improved symbol localization, design refinements and various software fixes.

PrefEdit

December 21, 2020:
We are releasing PrefEdit version 4.51:

  • This version provides an additional protection against cases where users try to paste invalid data into a property list.

PrefEdit is an application to manage nearly all aspects of the preference system contained in every macOS installation. The program consists of two components which are tightly integrated with each other: (1) An entry point to the preferences database of macOS, with access to all settings which are effective for your user account, (2) a browser and editor for macOS property list files (plists).

Apple releases new software via macOS Software Update:

  • Apple XProtect Configuration Data version 2137 (Update Product ID: 001-89795)
  • Apple XProtect Configuration Data for OS X El Capitan or later, version 2137 (Update Product ID: 001-89796)

XProtect is part of the built-in antivirus software of macOS. The package does not appear in the Software Update section of System Preferences (or App Store in older versions of the operating system). macOS is updating the software automatically in the background if you have granted the system permission to download system data files and security-related files.

The Mac App Store is affected by a major technical problem again: The new “App privacy labels” that should be introduced today, are not working and show incorrect information. For all Apps, the Mac App Store indicates that the developers have not provided the necessary privacy data, which is wrong in nearly all cases.
After the still unsolved problem that the App Store is unable to provide correct version and compatibility information for Big Sur-only App releases on older operating systems, Apple harms developers once more, now misrepresenting their data protection policies.

  • Allow List for Macintosh firmware security checks (“EFI Check”), version 103 (Update Product ID: 001-86200)
Security-related packages do not appear in the Software Update section of System Preferences (or App Store in older versions of the operating system). macOS is updating the software automatically in the background if you have granted the system permission to download system data files and security-related files.

December 15, 2020:
We are releasing TinkerTool System 6 version 6.95:

  • Added support for the 4th generation of the System Management Controller used in the latest Mac models.
  • The quick help feature was revised completely with updated links to new web pages of Apple that contain additional information on certain support and maintenance topics.
  • Communication with external programs was optimized, especially regarding possible error situations, which could otherwise result in memory leaks, file handle exhaustion, or unexpected program termination.

We are releasing TinkerTool System 7 version 7.1:

  • The feature to deactivate the personal standard caches of a user was reinstated.
  • Added changed feature to clean system-wide caches.
  • The feature to clean personal high-speed caches of a user was reinstated.
  • The feature to clean caches of the operating system was reinstated.
  • The function to remove invalid keychains of Xcode can additionally handle import entries now, in addition to the already existing feature for export entries.
  • Added support for the 4th generation of the System Management Controller used in the latest Mac models.
  • More detail data is shown on the system information page of the Info pane for Macs with Apple Silicon.
  • Added new information sheet listing internal product data of Macs with Apple Silicon.
  • The quick help feature was revised completely with updated links to new web pages of Apple that contain additional information on certain support and maintenance topics.
  • User guidance was changed when users try to clone the system volume, which is not supported by macOS 11.
  • Communication with external programs was optimized, especially regarding possible error situations, which could otherwise result in memory leaks, file handle exhaustion, or unexpected program termination.
  • Fixes a problem where the “Always On” Mobiles pane could be shown for specific portable Mac models which cannot support this feature.
  • The feature to set the software update server had to be removed because Apple no longer permits third-party servers.

December 3, 2020:
We are releasing System Monitor version 3.1 through the Mac App Store:

  • Added necessary changes for the 4th generation System Management Controller used in the latest Macintosh models with M1 processors.
  • Added a workaround for a possible issue when monitoring the top 5 processor or memory consuming processes which could cause System Monitor to wait unexpectedly long for an operating system response.
  • The temporarily unavailable option to connect with Intel(R) Power Gadget software was reinstated for Macs with Intel processors.
  • Fixed a possible layout problem for specific size settings of the control window which could cause the sidebar not to react on clicks or to show an unnecessary scroll-bar.
